Members include men and women of all ages, faiths, and employment status. Service Leadership Programs are supported throughout the District. T he Nebraska-Iowa Kiwanis District is an organization of 175 individual clubs, divided into 6 Regions, made up of 24 divisions that encompass much of both states. There are approximately 5,400 Kiwanis members working toward the goal of "Serving the Children of the World." A Message from Governor Lenora Res, non verba … Actions, Not Words. These are the words from our 2019-20 International President Daniel Vigneron. He goes on to say, “People can talk so much without saying anything. It’s when you are part of a team, putting in the hard work, that has the visible results. That, to me, defines a good Kiwanian. Let your actions speak louder than words, and have a stronger, more positive impact on the lives of others. I challenge each of you to lead by example.” I first became active in Kiwanis in 1978, long before I was a member, when I married Milford Hanna. I loved what our club, Lincoln Northeast, did in the community and always took part in their projects. In 1987, I attended my first International Convention in Washington D.C. History was made at this convention when women were voted to become members of Kiwanis! I n 1992-93, Milford led the NE-IA District as Governor and our path took us all over Iowa and Nebraska. This was such a memorable year getting to meet so many Kiwanians across the district and learning how different but yet how much the same our clubs are. We all share Actions, Not Words . I n August 1992, Milford asked me to join Kiwanis and it was one of the best decisions I’ve made. It has grown me as a person and prepared me to be a leader. I’ve been club President, club Secretary (17 years), Lt. Governor twice, and District Circle K Administrator. I’m honored and humbled now to be the Governor of the NE-IA District. I want to thank several key persons for preparing me for the year ahead. Milford for “asking” me to join Kiwanis, the late Dwight Nelson for asking me to accept the nomination for Vice President, the late Ralph Retzlaff for seeing my potential as club Secretary, Past Governor Ron Petsch for recruiting me as CKI Administrator and Past Governor Jody Melcher for asking me to accept the nomination for Vice Governor. T he year 2020 brings the celebration of 100 years for our District. Although three clubs have already celebrated their centennial – Omaha Inc, Lincoln Center, and Des Moines, the District was formed on January 6, 1920 and named “Western Iowa District.” It was renamed Nebraska-Iowa District on May 24, 1922. O ur District is Strong! We have had four International Presidents, Raymond Crossman from Omaha, Wes Bartlett from Algona, Steve Siemens from Des Moines and Jane Erickson from Bellevue. We have an active District with many projects helping so many children in our communities. Kids need us now even more. I am proud to be a Kiwanian, a NE-IA Kiwanian, and I am proud of all of you and what you do for the kids in our communities and world. I look forward to personally meeting many of you and learning about all you do for the kids. Remember -- Actions, Not Words.
